He's the black sheep of ex-state Sen. Pedro Espada’s family.
Espada’s cousin, Edwin Miranda, said he’s been shunned by the clan since testifying before a federal grand jury that was investigating bid-rigging at the nonprofit Bronx clinic controlled by Espada and his son Pedro Gautier Espada.
Miranda, the former head custodian at Soundview Health Center, described exorbitant maintenance charges paid by sub-tenants at the clinic when he testified Tuesday at the Espadas’ embezzlement trial in Brooklyn Federal Court.
For example, a pharmacy was billed $2,010-a-month for cleanup that amounted to 15 minutes of sweeping and mopping daily, Miranda said.
He resigned from Soundview in 2010 and now works for the Boys & Girls Club.
